The newsletter of fantasy author J.H. Fleming

Hello, everyone! If you're seeing this, it means you signed up for my newsletter at some point in time. Don't worry, I'm not going to flood your inbox. I do like to give you guys regular updates, though. Let's get started!

What Am I Working On?

The Bed and Breakfast Between Worlds: I finally have a working title! It may still change before all is said and done, but I’m happy with this one for the moment. As of this writing, this book is about 92% complete. My hope is to finish the first draft in the next few days.

The Blackbriar Coven: Once I finish writing the ghost book, I’ll return to The Blackbriar Coven for draft two. I’ll be going back and forth between these two for a few drafts, then send them off to Phill.

The Queen of Wind and Wave: No recent movement on this one, though that might change as I move into editing mode on the other books.

The Witch of Myrwist Wood: I’d intended to start draft five of this book this month, but I think I’ll put it off a bit longer. I’ve been entertaining a new idea for this one, and putting it aside for the moment will fit into that.

What Have I Been Reading?

I just finished Upon A Starlit Tide by Kell Woods, and was utterly enchanted. It’s sort of a blend of “The Little Mermaid,” “Cinderella,” and a couple other fairy tales. Perfect for me.

I’ve now moved on to Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne, which has been really fun so far. It’s a cozy fantasy in the vein of Legend and Lattes, and so far I really like it.

What Have I Been Watching?

Phill and I started up Sherlock recently. We’d both seen through season three in the past, but had never watched season four. It’s been fun watching through all the episodes again. I’ve wanted to re-read the stories for a while, and watching this has only reinforced that.

What Have I Been Playing?

I’m still playing Tales of the Shire, though I think I might be near the end. My guess is I’ll probably finish it sometime this month. After that, I’ll probably spend some time in LotRO, especially as Harvestmath approaches.

What Have I Been Listening To?

For this month, I decided to share one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands: “Steady” by The Staves. This is another band I discovered years ago through Terri Windling’s blog, Myth and Moor, and I highly recommend them.

September Events

September 5 - 6: Phill and I are done with conventions for the year and will be attending a few somewhat local fairs and festivals, selling books and CDs. The first one will be Junkin’ Market Days.

September 13: North Heights Market in the Park in Joplin, MO

September 19 - 27: We didn’t think we’d get this one, but somehow we were approved as vendors for the Arkansas Oklahoma State Fair, which runs for nine days.

Language Corner

In this section I like to share words from languages I’m learning. This month I’ve chosen more Irish words.

Patreon & Ko-fi

I post once a week on Patreon about all sorts of things: writing, books I’m reading, things going on in life. Once a month I also share sneak peeks of whatever book I’m working on. It would mean the world to me if you considered joining.

I am also on Ko-fi, which is sort of like Patreon, but with one key difference: you’re not locked into a subscription. Ko-fi allows patrons to donate however often they’d like to creators they follow. No subscriptions if you don’t want them, no commitments, and you have control over when and how you donate. I don’t post quite as often on Ko-fi, but I’ve been having fun sharing little micro-stories there, if you’re interested.
