The newsletter of fantasy author J.H. Fleming

Hello, everyone! If you're seeing this, it means you signed up for my newsletter at some point in time. Don't worry, I'm not going to flood your inbox. I do like to give you guys regular updates, though. Let's get started!

What Am I Working On?

Untitled Book 1: I’ve almost reached the 30,000-word mark on this one, with the goal of finishing the first draft by the end of November. I’m still having fun with it, and can’t wait to tell everyone more about it once I have a finished draft.

The Blackbriar Coven: I paused work on this book when I started the one above, but I’m back to working on this one as well. Right now my goal is to finish the first draft (fourth rewrite) by the end of the year.

The Dark House at the Crossing of the Worlds: Still waiting to hear back from beta readers on this one.

What Have I Been Reading?

I've just finished the second book in Naomi Novik’s Scholomance trilogy and am diving into book three.

I wasn’t quite feeling this one when I started reading book one. It took a few chapters for me to adjust to the style, and I was still in a cozy book sort of mood, so I started reading a cozy fantasy at the same time. However, once I got far enough in book one, the story really picked up and I’ve been devoting all my reading time to the series.

I’ll post on Patreon once I’ve finished book three to share my final thoughts!

What Have I Been Watching?

Phill and I recently finished Squid Game, and it’s been on my mind a lot since then. It’s a Korean show with an English dub on Netflix, with a second season coming this December and a third following next year.

I don’t want to give any spoilers, so I’ll just share the show’s description:

Hundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children’s games Inside, a tempting prize awaits—with deadly high stakes.

If you don’t mind violence, slight gore, and a little adult content, be sure to check it out.

Wildwood Minstrels

We’re hoping to start up practice again this autumn. I’m still taking ukulele lessons, so hopefully future albums will feature more of my playing. Until then, please enjoy our first album on Bandcamp!

Future Bestseller Podcast

Future Bestseller Podcast

On Future Bestseller Podcast, we talk about the craft and business of writing and feature various guests.

Nothing new here. We’re still on hiatus while my schedule is crazy busy. Fingers crossed we’ll have new episodes for you soon, though!

Shire Post Mint Festival

Phill and I attended the Shire Post Mint Festival this past weekend and had a ton of fun! It was our first time attending and we weren’t really sure what to expect, but we both really enjoyed ourselves and had so much fun seeing what the other vendors were creating, as well as getting to meet many new readers! (If you’re a new subscriber from the festival, welcome!)

Language Corner

In this section I like to share words from languages I’m learning. This month is more Irish words!

Patreon & Ko-fi

J.H. Fleming's Patreon

I post once a week on Patreon about all sorts of things: writing, books I’m reading, things going on in life. Once a month I also share sneak peeks at whatever book I’m working on. Now that I’ve started the new book, the next few months will be snippets of that. It would mean the world to me if you considered joining.

J.H. Fleming's Ko-fi

I am also on Ko-fi, which is sort of like Patreon, but with one key difference: you’re not locked into a subscription. Ko-fi allows readers to donate however often they’d like to creators they follow. No subscriptions if you don’t want them, no commitments, and you have control over when and how you donate. I don’t post quite as often on Ko-fi, but I’ve been having fun sharing little micro-stories there, if you’re interested.
