The newsletter of fantasy author J.H. Fleming
Hello, everyone! If you're seeing this, it means you signed up for my newsletter at some point in time. Don't worry, I'm not going to flood your inbox. I do like to give you guys regular updates, though. Let's get started!

From our trip to Oxford in 2019
What Am I Working On?

The Blackbriar Coven: I had a bit of a setback earlier this month and lost my most recent draft of this book. I was able to recover all the previous versions through backup files, but I had to start over on the most recent incarnation of this story. That said, I’m already up to 50,000 words. I don’t think I’m going to make my January deadline, but I should be able to finish it in February.
What Have I Been Reading?

I finished Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott and really enjoyed it. It was an engaging read, and I liked the way everything came together in the end.

The newest volume of the Hakumei & Mikochi manga series released on January 21, so I’ve been re-reading the series while I wait for it to arrive. This is a cozy slice-of-life series in manga form, and is one of my absolute favorites. I can’t recommend it enough.
What Have I Been Watching?

I first watched the movie What We Do in the Shadows some years ago. It’s filmed as a documentary following a group of vampire housemates in the present day. A few years ago a spinoff TV show aired, and is now in its sixth season.
Because Phill had never seen the original movie, we watched it first, which I recommend because the TV show has some callbacks to the movie.
We just started season three and have really been enjoying it.
What Have I Been Playing?

I’ve been focusing on The Lord of the Rings Online for the past few weeks, trying to knock out a few more regions before the release of Tales of the Shire in March. I’ve been playing for almost a decade now (it’s a big game), and am just now inching closer to Rohan. My current quest region is Dunland, which will be followed by the Gap of Rohan, Isengard, the Great River (where the Fellowship split), and then Rohan, which has several sub-regions.
Superstars Writing Seminar

A photo of us at Superstars in 2024. Also pictured are Kelly Adams, Mark Leslie Lefebvre, Shayne Easson, Rebecca Harris, and Julie Jones.
In just a couple days, we’ll be heading to Colorado Springs.
This will be our third year attending Superstars Writing Seminar, and Phill and I can’t wait to return. It’s a seminar focused on the business side of writing, delving into both traditional publishing and self-publishing.
We always have a great time, and return home with renewed energy to write.
Language Corner
In this section I like to share words from languages I’m learning. I recently started Japanese, so I thought I’d change things up this month.

Patreon & Ko-fi

I post once a week on Patreon about all sorts of things: writing, books I’m reading, things going on in life. Once a month I also share sneak peeks at whatever book I’m working on. It would mean the world to me if you considered joining.

I am also on Ko-fi, which is sort of like Patreon, but with one key difference: you’re not locked into a subscription. Ko-fi allows readers to donate however often they’d like to creators they follow. No subscriptions if you don’t want them, no commitments, and you have control over when and how you donate. I don’t post quite as often on Ko-fi, but I’ve been having fun sharing little micro-stories there, if you’re interested.
