The newsletter of fantasy author J.H. Fleming
Hello, everyone! If you're seeing this, it means you signed up for my newsletter at some point in time. Don't worry, I'm not going to flood your inbox. I do like to give you guys regular updates, though. Let's get started!

What Am I Working On?

Mistwalker: I’ve finally wrapped up edits on this book and have started submitting it. I’m starting off slowly, seeing what sorts of responses I get first, before deciding if further edits are needed or not. For the moment, though, I am done!
The Myth of Light: I finished the read-aloud draft of this one and have put it aside for the moment. Normally the read-aloud draft is the last one, but I realized that some more editing will be needed on this one—namely some plot changes will need to happen. It’s so massive, though, and I’ve already spent the last several months editing multiple books, so I decided putting it away for the moment and coming back to it with fresh eyes in a few months will be for the best.
The Dark House at the Crossing of the Worlds: Still waiting on beta reader comments for this one.
The Last Mages of Greybrook: I received my edits back from Phill, made some more changes, and am back to submitting this one.
The Blackbriar Coven: Now that all of the above is done (with the exception of Dark House), I should be writing this one again, right? Well… I would be, only I had a really, really exciting idea for a book series and Phill agreed that I should jump on it while I can. I’m not abandoning this book, and I’m eager to start working on it again (and still might try to squeeze some time in here and there). But the plan has changed and it is not currently my primary book to focus on. Which means…
Untitled Book 1: I’ve started writing a new book. I’ve been referring to it with a nickname, but I’m not quite ready to share even that yet. Perhaps when I’ve gotten a bit further along. Suffice it to say that I’m very excited about it and can’t wait to share more with you all!
What Have I Been Reading?
I finally finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. While I enjoyed it overall, it left me craving something more…magical.
A while back I started re-reading all of Patricia A. McKillip’s books. She’s one of my absolute favorite writers, and after re-reading the opening chapter of The Bell at Sealey Head, I was reminded why. It’s so, so good, as are most of her books. She writes the types of books I want to write, which is probably why I’ve always been so drawn to her.

What Have I Been Watching?
I started Anne with an “E”…last year??? Geez, I’m not sure why I paused for so long. I took a break somewhere in season 2. Not because I wasn’t enjoying it or anything. I think life just got in the way.
I have now finished the entire show (only three seasons, unfortunately), and I completely devoured the episodes I had left.
The show is based on the Anne of Green Gables book series, and while it deviated from the books (as most adaptations tend to do these days), I still greatly enjoyed it and was sad the show was canceled.
To try to fill the the desire for more, I looked up the old 1985 movie starring Megan Follows (that was the adaptation I remember from when I was a kid). Apparently there were two sequel movies as well, so I’ve added all of them to my wishlist. I’ll also now be needing the entire book series, please and thank you.
Wildwood Minstrels
It’s official! Two new members have joined our band. I hope to have more information to share soon, but until then, don’t forget to check out our first album on Bandcamp!
Future Bestseller Podcast
On Future Bestseller Podcast, we talk about the craft and business of writing and feature various guests.
We’ve had to go on hiatus again, unfortunately. Things were a bit overwhelming there for a bit, and trying to keep up with a podcast on top of everything else was just too much. We hope to start up again soon, though.

Patreon & Ko-fi
I post once a week on Patreon about all sorts of things: writing, books I’m reading, things going on in life. Once a month I also share sneak peeks at whatever book I’m working on. Now that I’ve started the new book, the next few months will be snippets of that. It would mean the world to me if you considered joining.
I am also on Ko-fi, which is sort of like Patreon, but with one key difference: you’re not locked into a subscription. Ko-fi allows readers to donate however often they’d like to creators they follow. No subscriptions if you don’t want them, no commitments, and you have control over when and how you donate. I don’t post quite as often on Ko-fi, but I’ve been having fun sharing little micro-stories there, if you’re interested.
